Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is an interesting title that comes with a unique twist on the series. It plays in first person which is new to the series, and it also comes with a very interesting story. It’s a bit of a slow burn especially in the beginning, but it does pick up well and in the end it gives us a unique perspective.
In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard you play Ethan Winters whose focus is to find his missing wife. His search brings him to a derelict plantation. Here he finds an infected family, but he understands that getting out of there alive will be a real challenge. The twits and turns that appear in the game are a lot of fun, and you get to see the creativity and unique style brought with the new gameplay ideas.
Despite the fact that the game is in first person, this perspective is actually really cool and it adds to the experience. Since our character isn’t a seasoned fighter or nowhere near that, you don’t really have a lot of combat skills. You can use explosives, flamethrowers, handguns and shotguns. These are cool and certainly add to the experience while offering a very interesting and unique perspective.
Aside from the Baker family which are the infected residents, you also have humanoid, fungal creatures as well as mutated insects. The gameplay is fun and it constantly encourages you to test out strategies and ideas, while bringing in a unique style and perspective into the mix.
Maybe the most impressive thing in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is that the game is more about exploration and horror when compared to action. It really delves back into the survival element and you can explore a variety of unique locations, you have a grid based inventory and so on. Thankfully, there are merchants and you can use them to expand the inventory multiple times as you play.
There’s also a crafting element, since you can combine items in order to create new ones. It’s a game that does have quite a lot of interesting ideas brought into the mix and the style itself is very engaging and fun. As you play you will also find various video tapes that are scattered in the world. We have to find these and learn more about the plot. Sometimes these video tapes contain clues that you do need in order to solve a puzzle. Which is what really stands out in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. You constantly have new ways to play and it really pushes the limits when it comes to style and value. That alone is something to take into consideration.
Sound is a vital part of the game, it does even become crucial as you try to avoid enemies or complete puzzles. The soundtrack as well, it’s very good and a lot of fun. Graphically, the game looks amazing and the switch to first person didn’t really take a ton from the game. Overall, the game sounds and looks impeccable, and you are bound to have a whole lot of fun with it.
If you disliked the previous Resident Evil games because they were too action focused, this is the best one for you. It’s very exciting to play, it has lots of creative features and ideas, and it does focus more on exploration and survival horror. Which is exactly where Resident Evil 7: Biohazard shines, because it has a wonderful story, lots of creative moments and it imbues them with an amazing style and unique ideas.
